| What is Datasphere? | |
|---|---|
| Datasphere is a text-based conferencing server system designed to overcome IRC's problems and, meanwhile, include some of ICQ's features. As it is based on novel multicasting techniques, it is also very suited for audio- and video distribution. | |
| What protocol does it use? | |
| Datasphere uses a novel protocol called World Wide Conferencing Protocol. It focusses on ultimate scalability: it should be possible to build a network consisting of millions of servers supporting hundreds of millions of users. You can read more about the protocol here. Although the protocol is different than IRC, the datasphere server software is backwards compatible so you can use your normal IRC client to connect. You will miss some of the enhanced features, though. | |
| Where can I download this marvellous software?? | |
| The software is available for download. It's currently not under GPL, but it will be soon. Currently, you may download and use it for non-commercial use. Modification is OK, as long as you send patches to me ;) | |
